COUNTY APPROVES MERGER WITH CEDC

The Allegany County Commissioners have approved a merger of the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation with county staff. For now, the CEDC will be housed in the County Office building, but may move to a neutral site in the future. The merger, according to County Commission President Jake Shade, could save the city of Cumberland roughly $75,000 annually and $25,000 for the county. The new entity will be known as the Allegany Development Corporation. The Cumberland Mayor and Council will now have to vote on the merger, which should be complete by July 1st.
