CEDC REJECTS MERGER PLAN

The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation has unanimously rejected a plan to merge with Allegany County. The plan was developed by the commissioners and approved April 30th; the agreement then required the approval of the CEDC board. The executive director of the CEDC Paul Kelly says the county’s proposal was “moving away from the concept toward a county-controlled entity that would have diminished the private stake, as well as diminishing what voice the city had.” For now, there will be no consolidation with the county.
