PENNEY PLANS TO CLOSE MORE THAN ONE-QUARTER OF STORES

Days after filing for bankruptcy, retail chain J.C. Penney says it plans to close more than a fourth of its stores. Of its 846 locations, Penney’s plans to close 242 stores between this fiscal year and next. In its current fiscal year, which ends in February, 192 stores are expected to close and 50 more in the next fiscal year. After the closings, the company will have 604 locations. There is no word on how this will affect the Country Club Mall location; a list of closings has not yet been released.
