A recent vote cut the funding for the police department in Shade Township in Somerset County. According to Chief William Richards, he was unaware of a meeting where it was decided the funding would be cut. According to the Chief, the entire department, which includes three, part-time officers who covered Shade Township and Central City borough, has been laid off. With no local police officers, the area will rely on the use of state police, who already cover a large area.
