Thirty-seven-year-old Matthew Scott Lewis was held on a temporary commitment at the Allegany County Detention Center. Lewis is accused of stealing money from a woman’s purse; he returned to ask for more money, which she refused to give him. Lewis then allegedly slapped her in the head with an open hand. He was on the scene when police arrived. He was charged with theft, assault, and violation of pre-trial conditions. He received a District Court hearing.
