North Branch Correctional Officer Brandon Opel has been charged with second-degree rape and related charges, following the investigation of an allegation of the sexual assault of an inmate. Opel, who has been employed by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services since 2016 has been suspended without pay. He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on December 24th.
