OAKLAND FIRE CAUSES $600,000 IN DAMAGE

A late Thursday fire destroyed a metal maintenance shop at Maryland Minerals, a sand and gravel supplier in Oakland. The fire caused an estimated $600,000 in damage to the building and its contents and remains under investigation. The fire was reported around 11:20 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, with about 45 volunteer firefighters taking a little more than an hour to control the blaze.
