HOGAN TRYING TO “RAMP UP” VACCINATIONS

Governor Larry Hogan is trying to address a number of “glitches” in getting the COVID-19 vaccine out to Marylanders, in particular health care workers, in the first phase of the program. The Maryland National Guard is being activated to help support county health departments and accelerate immunizations. CVS and Walgreen’s have had discussions with Governor Hogan on speeding up the process in nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Maryland is getting about 70,000 vaccinations per week, and that number is expected to increase. The state is also closely monitoring a variant of the COVID-19 virus, which has been discovered in Europe, with five states in the U.S. reporting mutations of the virus. Governor Hogan called the immunization program, “the greatest peacetime undertaking in American history.”
