An elderly man was killed, and another family member was able to escape, in a fire early yesterday morning in the 13,000-block of Bedford Road. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of death would be determined by the state medical examiner’s office. It is known the fire started in the victim’s bedroom, and while the cause remains under investigation, smoking while on home oxygen cannot be ruled out. One firefighter suffered minor injuries in fighting the blaze. The home was located in the area of Sunset Memorial Park.
