WOMAN SENTENCED IN ESPIONAGE CASE

Berkeley County resident Elizabeth Jo Shirley was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison, after taking a national defense document with plans to contact Russian officials. She admitted that she took a National Security Agency document, containing top-secret intelligence information. She served on active duty with the U.S. Air force and received top-level security clearances. She received an additional 36-month sentence for international parental kidnapping, for taking her 6-year-old daughter to Mexico, with the security document.
