SOUTH AFRICAN VARIANT FOUND CONFIRMED IN MARYLAND

Governor Larry Hogan announced over the weekend that a case of the South African variant of the coronavirus has been confirmed in the Baltimore metro region. Community transmission is likely, because the individual has not traveled internationally. The case was confirmed by the Maryland Department of Health, in consultation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since January 12th, seven cases of the U.K. variant have also been identified in the state.
