A portable electric heater is being cited as the cause of a minor fire in the 13,000-block of Poppy Street Monday afternoon. The heater in the basement was being used to keep pipes from freezing. The fire was discovered by a neighbor, and the fire extinguished itself before the Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department arrived. Damages to the Laura May Weimer residence were set at a total of $2500.
