TECH COMPANIES SUE TO BLOCK DIGITAL AD TAX

Maryland’s new tax on digital advertising revenue is the subject of a lawsuit. Amazon, Facebook, and Alphabet are part of a group of tech companies joining the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in suing to block the law. It was enacted last week, after lawmakers voted to override a veto by governor Hogan. The first-of-its-kind tax is expected to generate as much as 250-million dollars a year. The lawsuit has been called “punitive” and “unfair,” because it targets digital, but not print ads.
