Bedford County residents Shawn Patrick Allison and Kailey Jo Hughes have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, in connection to the death of a three-month-old child in a Super 8 hotel room in January. A five-page document states the two were high on methamphetamine and the child had a small amount in her system when she died. Hughes had admitted to having drug problems; Allison was withdrawing from heroin and was flailing in bed the night the child died; the child had been sleeping between the two of them. Both were lodged in the Bedford County Jail after failing to post bond.
