FROSH WARNS OF FAKE PUBLISHER’S CLEARING HOUSE LETTERS

The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has been notified about a fraudulent “Publisher’s Clearing House” letter that claims the recipient has won an award of a million dollars or more, from a random drawing of serial numbers called the 2021 Mega Prize Payout. The letter claims the recipient has been approved for a lump sum payment. There are several “red flags” that show it is a scam, including asking the recipient to act quickly and confidentiality to obtain a prize; it also contains awkward phrases and grammatical errors; and, the signature and photo at the bottom of the letter are poorly reproduced photocopies. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
