WMSRR TO KICK OFF SEASON ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad will kick off its 2021 season on Memorial Day weekend. For the time being, diesel engines will be used while repairs continue on the Baldwin steam locomotive, Number 1309. Contrary to previous reports, there are no restrictions on track usage by the Federal Railroad Administration. There had been concerns over the condition of the railroad ties supporting the 16 miles of track between Cumberland and Frostburg. County Commissioner Dave Caporale says the railroad can still run on the existing track, with no immediate need to replace the ties.
