AMMONIA LEAK AT PILGRIM’S PRIDE ON MONDAY

An ammonia leak, originating at the Pilgrim’s Pride Plant in Moorefield, forced the early dismissal of schools there, and the brief closure of some of the town’s businesses. The original call came in shortly before 7:30 a.m., and units remained on the scene until about 9 a.m. There were no injuries or transports. Traffic was diverted from the area. Pilgrim’s Pride has its own emergency response crew to handle matters like this, and there is a safety program in place at the facility.
