MARYLAND TO END FEDERAL PANDEMIC UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

Maryland is joining about two dozen other states in ending federal pandemic unemployment benefits.  Governor Larry Hogan says he notified the federal government the state will end the extra payments on July 3rd.  He says jobs are now in “good supply” and many Maryland businesses are facing severe worker shortages.  Hogan also announced the state will bring back the work search requirement for Marylanders collecting unemployment benefits.  Beginning the week of July 4th, unemployed workers will need to prove they’ve engaged in three “reemployment activities” each week to continue collecting state jobless payments.
