Democrats in Maryland’s congressional delegation are urging Governor Larry Hogan to reconsider the move to end federal unemployment assistance next month. They say the benefits are helping more than 300-thousand Marylanders make ends meet as unemployment remains above its pre-pandemic level. The lawmakers say the governor’s decision to cut off federal assistance on July 3 will strip critical aid two months earlier than necessary. They say rather than taking a phased-in approach, the governor unnecessarily bowed to partisan pressure and ignored the needs of struggling workers and families.
