CUMBERLAND MAN CREDITED WITH SAVING CHILD’S LIFE

Cumberland resident Van Gaus is being credited for saving the life of an 11-year-old, who was rescued from the water at Rocky Gap State Park Sunday afternoon. Once he brought the child to shore, he also performed rescue efforts that removed water from the child’s stomach. The child was taken to UPMC-Western Maryland as a precaution. The incident happened around 12:40 p.m. Sunday. Gaus is a 34-year employee of the United Parcel Service, and his responsibilities include assisting in the safety department.
