JUDGE REJECTS REDACTION OF RAMOS’ MASS KILLING REFERENCES

A judge has denied a defense request to redact mass killing references the Capital Gazette shooter made to a psychiatrist.  Jarrod Ramos has already pleaded guilty to killing five employees of the newspaper in 2018 and the hearing was related to the upcoming trial to determine if he was criminally responsible.  During a motions hearing Wednesday,  the defense argued that Ramos’ references to Columbine, Parkland and Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh would be prejudicial.  The judge disagreed saying the jurors’ right to know outweighed those concerns. Jury selection starts June 23 with the trial beginning June 29.
