MARYLAND LAUNCHES PROGRAM TO FILL VACANT SPACES

Maryland is launching a new 25-million-dollar program aimed at filling vacant retail and commercial space.  Speaking from Berlin on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Governor Larry Hogan said “Project Restore” will offer rental grants and sales tax relief rebates for businesses that begin new or expanded operations in spaces that have been vacant for at least six months.  Businesses will be eligible for up a quarter-million dollars in sales tax rebates per year.  Hogan says small businesses that start an operation in a vacant storefront will receive up to a year of rental subsidies to off-set start-up costs.
