MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO STEALING FROM RELIGIOUS GROUPS

A 43-year-old Baltimore resident has pleaded guilty for his role in a scam to take money from religious organizations. Daniel Velcu allegedly conspired with four other people from June 2018 to October 2020 to take checks and donations earmarked for religious organizations across the United States. Prosecutors say Velcu and four others would drive up to the mailboxes of religious groups and take their mail. Velcu faces up to 30 years in federal prison when he is sentenced in September.
