Lifelong Allegany County resident Bill Atkinson announced his candidacy for County Commission last Saturday at Canal Place. Atkinson had worked with the Maryland Department of Planning, by directing millions of dollars in state and federal funding. In his announcement, Atkinson’s priorities include a large investment in broadband for Allegany County schools, active learning labs, a world-class trail system, and large investments through the Allegany College of Maryland Western Maryland Works Program. He was born and raised in Frostburg, and now resides in Cumberland with his wife. They are the parents of Ali Eller of LaVale and Nick Atkinson of Melbourne, Florida.
