An appeal can move forward in the vacated murder conviction of Adnan Syed. In September the family of murder victim Hae Min Lee was told that Syed’s conviction was being overturned but they could not make the hearing on short notice. The family appealed, saying their rights were violated because they were not part of the process. Before the appeal could be heard the Baltimore State’s Attorney’s Office dropped all charges against Syed and he was released from prison. The Maryland Court of Special Appeals says the family’s appeal will be heard in February.
