Maryland has reached a settlement with the federal Environmental Protection Agency over allegations it did not adequately protect the Chesapeake Bay. Maryland and other plaintiffs accused the EPA of failing to stop Pennsylvania from allowing livestock operations and stormwater runoff to flow into Chesapeake Bay. The settlement agreement released by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation includes a commitment by the EPA to increase scrutiny of Pennsylvania. It will be released today on the Federal Register, and faces a 30-day public comment period.
