The Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program has awarded over $646,000 to the Barton Hose Company Number 1 in Allegany County. With last week’s award to the Baltimore Pike Volunteer Fire Company, a total of over $1.4 million will go toward the purchase of 192 sets of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus units for 13 stations across the county. The units provide firefighters with fresh oxygen and prevent them from breathing harmful carcinogens when responding to fires. Maryland’s United States Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin made the announcement.
