“Convoy for Kids”
September 30th, all day starting at 10am
This will be the 8th year for the “Convoy for Kids”. An event to raise money for local kids fighting cancer and their families. In the first 7 years they raised $147,000. 100 percent of these funds go to the families. It is all day event at Moran’s in Westernport with food, trucks, a live band in the evening, a silent auction, a candy drop for the kids and lots of other fun things. The Convoy pulls out at 2pm and comes back to Moran’s for the rest of the event.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection
Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Are you cleaning out your garages, basements and cupboards only to find a container or two of household products that you just aren’t sure how to dispose of them? If so – SAVE THE DATE – for the next Household Hazardous Waste collection event in Allegany County!The event will take place on Saturday, October 7th, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Allegany County Fairgrounds (11490 Moss Avenue in Cumberland), and will provide free disposal of common household wastes requiring special disposal. This will include common items from your house such as left-over gasoline, oil, fluids, automotive batteries, chemicals, cleaners, pesticides/herbicides, glues & adhesives. It is important that all materials be brought in their original containers – do not mix or consolidate any products. Additionally, paint will be accepted for recycling for a fee of $3 per container (payment will be accepted on-site). Only Latex paint in its original container with the OEM label will be accepted. Sizes accepted are a quart, 1-gallon or 5-gallon buckets.

Multiple Sclerosis Empowerment Meeting

Swan Meadow School Harvest Sale
Friday, September 29, 2023 from 5 to 10 p.m.
The Swan Meadow School will hold its 74th annual Harvest Sale at the Pleasant Valley Comunity Center in Oakland. Homemade doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, fresh pressed apple cider and more will be available. Cooncessions begin at 5 p.m., and an auction of crafts, hand-built furniture, locally-grown produce, and amazing baked goods will start at 6:30 p.m. The Community Center is located at 975 Joni Miller Road in Oakland.
Great Allegany Run Set for October 7th
Saturday, October 7th, beginning at 8 a.m.
The Great Allegany Run, now in its 41st year, will take place on Saturday, October 7th, and attracts runners of all ages from throughout the region. Proceeds benefit the Allegany County Habitat for Humanity. The 15K race begins at 8 a.m. at Mason’s Lodge in Mount Savage, and ends on Centre Street on the downtown Cumberland Mall. 5K race also begins at 8 a.m., in front of the Queen City Creamery. An awards ceremony will be held at Mezzo’s on Centre Street and runners can enjoy food, drinks and prize drawings. Online registration is being held at “runsignup.com/RACE/MD/Cumberland/GreatAlleganyRun,” and will also be held at WheelzUp Adventures on Baltimore Street from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 6th and Saturday, October 7th from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Cumberland Valley Township Volunteer Fire Company Cancer Benefit Yard Sale

Benefit Dinner and Shoot

The Casselman Valley Sportsmen’s Club will hold a Spaghetti dinner/ Shoot to benefit Jordan Ashby who was diagnosed with 2 brain tumors. The dinner will start at 5:30, Can eat in or to go.
Shoot will start at 6 PM, with shooting from the 16 and 23 yard line.
There will also be raffles …. Anyone who wishes to donate please drop off item to the Casselman Valley Sportsman Club beforehand.
Responsible Dog Owners Day

Shanksville Fall Cars and Crafts

The Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department presents the second annual Fall Cars and Crafts Event on Saturday, October 7 at the Shanksville Community Grove in Friedens. Craft vendor setup starts at 10 a.m. The kitchen opens at 11 a.m., with all your favorites, including burgers, hot dogs, nachos and drinks. The craft show opens at noon. The cruise starts at 2 p.m. Judging starts at 4 p.m. and prizes will be awarded at 5 p.m. Live music by the Derek Woods Band from 3 to 6 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department.
