The North River Ruritan Club is hosting a Community Picnic on Saturday, June 18th from 1 to 5 p.m. at Central Hampshire Park, off Route 50, behind the Augusta Fire Department. There’ll be a bounce house, games, and raffles and door prizes. Food includes pulled pork, BBQ chicken, hot dogs, cole slaw and potato salad. “DJ Jeff” will provide music. All proceeds will benefit the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia.

The Hopper’s 4-H Club is sponsoring a “Youth and 4-H Rabbit Show” on June 11th, beginning at 9 a.m. The show will be held at the Garrett County Fairgrounds. The annual Cumberland Farmer’s market is underway in downtown Cumberland, every Thursday, from now through the end of October, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Beginning on June 4th, there will be a Farmer’s Market at Canal Place. This Cumberland tradition features vendors, offering fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, eggs, flowers and plants, herbs, pet food and treats, honey, baked goods, breads, coffee, natural personal products and more.

There will be a benefit for Shawnee Simmons, who has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The event will be held at the West End playground in Keyser on Saturday, June 11th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be raffles, vendors, a bake sale, a bouncy house, a D.J., and food trucks. All proceeds go to Shawnee, for her medical expenses.

The Scouts of Troop 9 will be holding a flag retirement ceremony at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church on May 28th, begi9nning at 8 a.m. The scouts will be retiring flags that have been torn or damaged from wear. The Scouts would like the public to see and participate in the ceremony. The scouts will then lead the placing of flags at several cemeteries in the area. Water and flags will be available to all participants; those who participate will be responsible for travel to and from the church to the cemeteries where they’d like to place the flags. The Western Maryland Food Truck Festival takes place on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from noon to 8 p.m. at the PVAA Complex in Cresaptown. There will be at least ten food vendors from the area, featuring tacos, pizza, soul food, seafood, and more. Also local craft beer vendors will be on site and the county’s first winery, Charis Winery. Live music from the Beaner McKinley project, Scott Alexander and Jaded. There will be a Cornhole tournament at 1 p.m.. The festival is being held to benefit the Cresaptown Pee Wee Football Team and Cheer organization and the Allegany County Animal Shelter. The shelter will have adoptable pets on site for a few hours and you can even take them for a walk on the trail there.
