ATTORNEY CHARGED WITH EXTORTION

Maryland malpractice attorney Stephen Snyder has been indicted on claims he tried to extort the University of Maryland Medical System to the tune of $25 million. Snyder allegedly threatened to launch a public relations campaign, claiming the system transplanted diseased organs into patients without telling them the quality of the organs they were receiving; this, unless UMMS paid him $25 million. There are other alleged incidents in connection with the alleged extortion plot. If convicted, he would face 20 years for extortion and for each of seven Travel Act violations.
