Approximately 898,000 Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, as the coronavirus pandemic kept the labor market in a chokehold. The seasonally adjusted number of initial jobless claims has risen to 54.5 million. In Maryland, there was a slight decline of newly filed unemployment claims. Over 28,000 new claims were filed most recently.
