CITY CANCELS NEW YEAR’S EVE EVENTS

The city of Cumberland’s New Year’s Eve celebration in downtown has been canceled for this year, another casualty of increasing COVID-19 numbers. Downtown Development Commission Executive Director Melinda Kelleher says there is simply “no good way to accommodate the crowd that the celebration tends to draw safely.” There also will not be a fireworks display this year, as there is no good place for people to sit in their cars and watch. The decision was made during yesterday’s meeting of the Downtown Development Commission.
