SHOOTING VICTIM IDENTIFIED

The man who was shot and killed by police when he attempted to disarm a Mineral County Sheriff’s deputy has been identified as 35-year-old Winston Kent Redman. He was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire at 1316 Hooker Hollow Road. Redman was being treated for significant burns, when he became agitated and combative. He shoved a paramedic and pushed a deputy off the rear step of the ambulance and tried to grab the officers’ gun. A second deputy then fired one shot that struck Redman. Neither deputy was injured, and both have been placed on routine administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation by the West Virginia State Police.
