FRANCHOT ANNOUNCES TAX FILING EXTENSION

Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot announced an extension of tax filing and payment deadlines, to help people weather the financial strains due to the coronavirus pandemic. During yesterday’s Maryland Board of Public Works meeting, he announced that business taxes and quarterly estimated income tax returns and payments that would be due in January, February and March won’t be due until April 15th. This adds up to a total of between $1 billion and $1.5 billion in temporary relief. There will be no penalties and people do not have to formally request an extension.
