BLAIR COUNTY PAPER MILL CLOSING

It’s a story that’s all too familiar to our area. The Roaring Spring Paper Mill will soon be closing permanently, according to the Altoona Blair County Development Corporation. The plant is scheduled to close in March or early April, affecting about 300 jobs.  The Development Corporation is activating the regional workforce rapid response team to help place as many of the manufacturers as possible within their labor shed, before turning their attention to marketing the facility to other potential operators. Appvion, which owns the plant, is blaming continued market constraints, brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
