MARYLAND EXTENDS TAX FILING DEADLINE TO JULY

Marylanders are being given an extra three months to file their state income tax returns.  Comptroller Peter Franchot announced Maryland’s tax-filing deadline is being extended to July 15th.  Franchot says the extension is needed due to recent and pending legislation at the state and federal levels that affect 2020 tax filings, including the new coronavirus relief bill just signed by President Biden.  No interest or penalties will be assessed if returns are filed and taxes owed are paid by the new deadline.  Federal tax returns are still due on April 15th, but some in Congress are calling for the IRS to extend that deadline as well.
