DOWNTOWN DESIGN PLANS PRESENTED

Ground will be broken for the Baltimore Street Redevelopment Project near the end of this year, or the beginning of  next, and will involve the redesign of the streetscape, installation of fiber optic cable, and replacement of utility lines. The renovation will also include one lane of traffic through the mall, expanded sidewalks for outdoor dining, moveable planters, and what is known as an “urban forest” concept-tall trees creating shade for those dining outside. Project designer William Cochran of Frederick says the redesign will leverage a whole new type of future for Cumberland. Cochran observed that many have not realized Cumberland can experience an upswing. A website has been established for the project, and can be found at www.historiccumberlandcitycenter.com.
