Eleven new COVID-19 cases have been reported by the Allegany County Health Department as of Friday; the cumulative total is now at 6478. There have been no additional coronavirus-related deaths, with the cumulative total at 202. The county’s positivity rate is still about one-fourth of the state’s rate. The county’s rate is 1.31 per cent; statewide, the rate is 4.64 per cent. The state’s Phase 2B vaccination category will open tomorrow; those, aged 16 or older with specific medical conditions which make them more vulnerable to severe illness from COVID-19, will be eligible for the vaccine. UPMC-Western Maryland surpassed the 5,000-vaccine mark on Friday.
