BLOCK GRANTS TO FUND CHROMEBOOKS AND HOT SPOTS PROGRAMS

The Cumberland Mayor and Council has awarded Community Development Block Grant Cares Act funds to the Allegany County Library System to bring broadband and technology accessibilty to the South Cumberland area. The amount of the grant is $89,000. The funding has made the “Get Connected” program possible, which helps bridge the digital divide in the community. the program begins with an initial 75 hotspots and 90 Chromebooks available to patrons. The South Cumberland Library will begin loaning out Chromebooks and WiFi hotspots, starting Monday, kicking off the new service as part of its celebration of National Library Week.
