NO COUNTY BUDGET CUTS NEEDED

With the new fiscal year coming up on July 1st, Allegany County officials say no cuts will be needed and that all agency budget requests would be filled. There will, however, be a hike of 1.9 per cent in real estate taxes, resulting in $798,000 in revenue; this is necessary, in part, due to state tax assessments and strong real estate sales. The Board of Education will receive its full request, and county employees will see a 2 per cent cost of living increase in the budget. Federal funding for state and local governments will result in Allegany County receiving $13 million; Cumberland will receive $20 million and $7 million will go to Frostburg.
