UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS SHUT OFF

Unemployed workers are discovering their unemployment benefits have been shut off.  The benefits are cut off by the Department of Labor because of suspected fraud and it can take weeks to re-verify claims.  This goes against the U.S. Department of Labor’s guidance, which is to notify the individuals that an ID verification is required before shutting benefits off.  Maryland’s Department of Labor is expected to hire a new vendor to assist with the verification process in the coming days.
