COMMISSIONERS TO FILE COMPLAINT AGAINST CSX

The Allegany County Commissioners are planning action to file a formal complaint to the Surface Transportation Board against CSX Transportation for the destruction and “continuing refusal to repair” the Washington Street Bridge in Cumberland. According to a social media post from Commission President Jake Shade, a solution was endorsed by state and local representatives, which would use local dollars to repair or replace the bridge at its current height. Shade says all CSX had to do, was to allow the city and county to rebuild the bridge. In a two-page refusal letter, CSX states it is concerned about trucks striking the bridge on Greene Street. Shade concludes that every option has been pursued…and rebuffed. The only remaining option, he says, is to file a formal complaint with the STB. The statement concludes with the statement, “We deserve better.”
