FORMER U.S. EDUCATION SECRETARY TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR

Former U.S. Education Secretary John King Jr. is making a run for Maryland Governor.  The Democrat says he will run as a progressive candidate focused on expanding state’s investment in education, working to combat climate change, spur economic growth and address racial inequity. If elected he would become the first black governor in Maryland.  The 46-year-old is the president and CEO of The Education Trust nonprofit that aims to identify and close achievement gaps. King served as education secretary during President Obama’s second term.
