VAN HOLLEN INTRODUCES COMMUNITY-BASED RESPONSE ACT

Maryland U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen joined Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott as he announced a pilot program to divert some 911 emergency calls from police to behavioral health professionals. The senator says systemic change is needed to ensure true public safety because not every emergency requires a police response. Van Hollen says he will reintroduce the Community-Based Response Act so state and local governments across the country can develop similar programs.
