Morgantown resident George Tanios, charged in connection with the January 6th riot at the U.S. Capitol, has been denied bond in the case. Both he and childhood friend and co-defendant Julian Khater of Pennsylvania were denied bond. Each has been charged with nine counts, including assaulting three officers with a deadly weapon; in this case, it was extremely strong pepper spray. The charges are punishable by up to 20 years in prison. A discovery hearing is set for June 16th at 10 a.m. Due to the pandemic, the federal trials won’t be scheduled until after August 31st.
