POLICE ID SUSPECT KILLED IN SHOOTOUT WITH OFFICERS

Baltimore police are identifying the suspect shot and killed in an exchange of gunfire that left two officers hurt.  Police say 32-year-old Justin Powell of Baltimore was wanted on a murder warrant and an additional handgun warrant.  The shooting happened just after 8:00 on Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Security Square Mall in Woodlawn.  According to police, two city detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force were looking for a suspect wanted for a murder in Baltimore when the man emerged from a vehicle and opened fire, striking the detectives.  Officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, who later died.  At last word, the detectives were in stable condition at Baltimore’s Shock Trauma Center and are expected to survive.
