FORMER STATE SENATOR DIES

Family, friends, colleagues, and political opponents are remembering the life of former Maryland State Senator Julian Lapides. The former lawmaker passed away Wednesday after a battle with cancer. He was 89. Lapides is being remembered for his bold and flamboyant stance on many issues affecting residents including the building of sports stadiums in downtown Baltimore and urban renewal programs that wiped out city neighborhoods. The former lawmaker was a graduate of Baltimore City College and lived in the Bolton Hills neighborhood. Graveside services will be held Monday at Arlington Cemetery on Rogers Avenue.
