The Western Maryland Delegation will look very different following the 2022 elections, as District 1-A Delegate Wendell Beitzel announced he will not seek re-election next year, and will retire. In a press release, he expressed appreciation to his wife and family, and to State Senator George Edwards, who also announced his retirement this summer. He also gave thanks to the Garrett and Allegany County Republican Central Committees and current and former staff members, including Brandon Butler, who at one time, had served as his chief of staff. Delegate Beitzel first ran for the House of Delegates in 2006, after then-Delegate Edwards announced his intention to run for State Senate.
