Cumberland resident Jerry Lee Brown is accused of assaulting two Cumberland Police officers and a bailiff at District Court. An officer tried to place him under arrest, while he was at the Parole and Probation Office; Brown struck the officer on the head, causing his glasses to break. He is also accused of assaulting a parole officer and a bailiff several times, briefly knocking him unconscious. The officer then tried to subdue Brown by tasing him, but to no effect. Other officers arrived, but Brown continued to try to assault them. He was originally wanted for assaulting his ex-girlfriend. Among the charges filed against him were three counts of second-degree assault, second-degree assault of a law enforcement officer, destruction of property, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
