Mountain Ridge High School was placed on lockdown yesterday, as a precautionary measure while the threat of a school shooting was posted nationally on a social media platform. The post read, “Don’t Come to School December 16th, 2021. School Shooting.” The post was not directed at any specific person or school. Other police agencies around the country have investigated similar photographs surfacing among their school students. Frostburg City Police learned of two incidents in which there was the possibility of the possession of weapons. Searches were done at the school, with the help of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department and school personnel. None of the searches revealed any corroborating evidence of firearms or weapons. Ultimately the threats were determined to be “unsubstantiated.” Additional police presence will remain in schools as an additional safety precaution. Criminal charges for disrupting a school operation may be pending, following further review of the investigative findings.
