Clifton Brooks, the last surviving Tuskegee Airman in West Virginia died Friday at the age of 99. Brooks was a longtime resident of Keyser. He had been recruited to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a cryptologist during World War II, and eventually became the head code technician in Italy. When he returned from the war, he worked for the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company until his 1985 retirement. Friends are being received at the Smith Funeral Home tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Services are set for Friday at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be in the Thorn Rose Cemetery in Keyser.
